El Dorado High School is excited to welcome Lance Barkley as the new Athletic Director and Dean of Students. With a strong background in athletics and a deep commitment to student growth, Barkley brings a wealth of experience that will strengthen our school community both on and off the field.

“What truly drew me to this opportunity was the passion the El Dorado community has for its schools and the potential within the athletic programs. El Dorado is a place with strong traditions, and I’m looking forward to building on that foundation to create a culture our students, staff, and families can rally behind,” Barkley said.

Barkley’s journey in athletics began as a student-athlete, playing collegiate baseball at Fort Scott Community College and Washburn University. His passion for sports led him to earn an Associate of Science from Fort Scott in 2013, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Management from Washburn University in 2016.

Following graduation, Barkley returned to Fort Scott Community College, where he served from 2016 to 2020 as an Assistant Baseball Coach, Assistant Athletic Director, and Sports Information Director. During his time there, he was instrumental in recruiting and developing talent, coordinating travel and practice schedules, overseeing budgets, and leading academic support for student-athletes. His leadership helped shape a nationally competitive NJCAA baseball program, producing multiple All-American and over 30 All-Conference athletes. Barkley also played a key role in community outreach, organizing youth camps and leading service projects to build strong local connections.

Beyond coaching, Barkley’s professional experience includes roles as a real estate appraiser with SunGroup Real Estate (2020–2023) and most recently as a Risk Management Producer with Insurance Center Inc. While his career path has taken him into the private sector, his commitment to supporting young people has remained constant.

“I am incredibly honored and excited to be a part of USD 490. Athletics have been a lifelong passion of mine, and I’m eager to bring my experience as both a former athlete and coach to help lead, mentor, and support our student-athletes and coaches. What I’m most excited about, though, is helping develop our student-athletes for success—not just in athletics, but in life,” Barkley said.

Known for mentoring with purpose, Barkley builds meaningful relationships with students, values open and honest communication, and is respected for his ability to listen and lead with integrity. He brings this student-centered approach to his role at El Dorado High School, where he will oversee athletic programs and student support.

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Lance Barkley as he becomes #PartOfThePride. We’re excited for the energy, experience, and leadership he brings to the Wildcat family!
