JAG-K tours capitol of Kansas

El Dorado High School and Extend JAG-K Students celebrated JAG-K Day by joining other JAG-K groups from across Kansas on a visit to the capitol building in Topeka, Kan. on Feb. 7, 2024.

Each JAG-K program across the state was allowed to bring four officers or students to visit and partake in a ton of great opportunities. Students sat in on a House and Senate meeting in which very important bills were voted on. They also met El Dorado State Representative Will Carpenter.

“This was a great experience and he was such an awesome host,” EHS JAG-K Instructor Brett Gunderson said. “He took the time to show us his office, explain what he does and oversees in a typical day and he even took us through a bill that was going to be voted on the same day that they had been working on for a while. The bill ended up passing! It was such a great experience for our kids.”

After eating lunch, students toured the capitol, including a trip to the dome which is located at the very top of the capitol building.
