The USD 490 transportation department participated in a regional bus competition on April 29.

The competition allows drivers to show what they know by competing in three categories that are split into Rookie or Experienced. The categories are Mini Bus, Conventional and Transit (Snub Nose).

Sandra Peters was USD 490's only entry in Mini Bus, where she took first place in the Rookie.

We had six drivers compete in the Rookie Transit. Rick Jenkins placed second, Kayla Thomas placed third, Veronica Fisher and Robert Cecchini tied for fourth place, Brandy Combs placed fifth and Kyle McLaren placed ninth.

Tonya Good and Alisha Cubbage placed fourth and ninth, respectively in the Experienced Transit.

This training allows transportation staff to further their education and sharpen their driving skills as well as meet colleagues from other districts. There will be an opportunity for them to compete at the State Safety Conference and bus Rodeo at the end of May.
