USD 490 has received a grant to add a secure entrance next to the main entrance at El Dorado High School. Construction is expected to begin May 22, so all middle and high school credit recovery courses as well as Driver’s Education will be located at El Dorado Middle School for the summer of 2023. High school administrators will also be located at the middle school while construction is in progress.
While the existing entrance will still be used for events and during student arrival and dismissal after construction is completed, anyone entering the high school building after classes begin each morning will have to do so through the secure entrance. It will require them to buzz in similarly to how they do now, but they will enter through the main office instead of directly into the commons.
This will improve safety and security for high school students and staff by ensuring that all visitors are properly checked in and vetted. All of USD 490’s other schools already require visitors to enter through the office as part of the safety features built in to the construction of the new buildings.
