Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs have evolved over the years from offering only a few vocational skills to incorporating academic courses and a wider variety of career options. USD 490 currently offers 12 pathways designed to help students become college and career-ready.

The current pathways are: Business Finance, Construction Strand – Construction Pathway, Design Strand – Construction Pathway, Digital Media, Early Childhood Development and Services, Family, Community and Consumer Services, Graphic Design, Health Science, Production Strand – Manufacturing Pathway, Marketing, Teaching and Training, and Web and Digital Communications.

Each pathway is structured with introductory courses to teach students about that career field, technical courses to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in that field, and application courses that allow students to use the knowledge they have gained by practicing the skills and concepts.

Through a partnership with Butler Community College, there are some courses that students can take for dual credit between EHS and BCC while in high school. There are some graduates who complete enough dual credit classes to earn an Associate’s Degree from Butler while they are still in high school. This gives them a head start as they enter the workforce or continue on to a four-year college after high school graduation.
